GROWING GUIDE

Mature size:
Height: 6 — 8 feet (1.8 — 2.4 m).
Space: 9 — 12 inches (22 — 30 cm) apart.
Flowering attributes:
This Spencer cultivar, L. 'Charlie's Angel', is a good choice for exhibition quality flowers. The large ruffling flowers grow on long stems. Its strong scent makes it excellent as a pure pale blue cut flower, which turns more lavender as the flower ages.
Rainy Side Notes
In 1993, Lathyrus 'Charlie's Angel' won the Royal Horticultural Award of Garden Merit.
My 2004 sweet pea trials met with disaster. The sweet pea seedlings were sitting on a table waiting to be transplanted into the garden. A strong windstorm hit the region and blew many trees over, including one onto my neighbor's roof. The region had widespread power outages. The disaster for me (albeit small compared to those who had tree damage to their homes) was that the table blew over and the seedlings over turned onto the ground. I lost many of the seedlings, or the tags fell out and I could not identify them. L. 'Charlie's Angel' was one that landed with its tag intact.
This is one I highly recommend as an outstanding cut flower with a fragrance that will knock you over like a Mac truck.
