Container Grown Edibles
Debbie Teashon
What does a lettuce plant, a bunch of chives, and a marigold have in common? The answer is one terra cotta pot, potting soil, fertilizer, water and some tender loving care! If you ever thought that vegetable gardens are best grown in a hiding place in the backyard, you haven't seen wonderful containers housing a few edibles mixed with flowers.
Growing a bit of food in a pot can be a lot of fun! Gather fun containers, a few edible plants, and a flower or two for your project. You can use beet greens, spinach, color lettuce, or chard. Put together a shelf of pots, a wooden box of herbs and edibles, or an old galvanized bucket for some good old-fashioned container fun!
The plants in these pots include:
- Lettuce
- Swiss chard
- Beet greens
- Chives
- Thyme
- Marigolds
