The Beachy Garden—Northwest Style
Display Garden: A Pacific Northwest Beach Garden—It's Never too Late to Learn to Dance.
Debbie Teashon
I live close to the Puget Sound in a seaside community, and pattern my home and garden in a relaxed, eclectic style, so this garden spoke to me. A beach scene from the movie Zorba the Greek inspired the design, and utilized our Northwest region's unique style of repurposed material interwoven with new hardscapes. The designers married this style with drought tolerant flora that can take both our extended summer drought and winter wet. It was easy to see why this garden caught my eye.
My favorite parts of the garden were columns topped by plants, which dripped with water that splashed down onto the rocks below, and a river of mosaic stone that broke up the expanse of flagstone in front of the building. Appealing, small bunches of white flowers that popped up in the grass added a summertime impression to the display and beckoned me to look at an otherwise boring lawn.
