West Seattle Nursery Wins Five Garden Awards

Tonight West Seattle Nursery captured five garden awards at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show for the winning display garden — Wabi-Sabi: Embrace Flawed Beauty. The awards granted were the coveted Founders Cup, Best Use of Color, Best Use of Horticulture, and Garden Design Magazines Award. The spa-like design encompassed fascinating elements such as a Tillandsia wall in front. A moss wall made up the backside, with coir pots used to simulate fungi.
Award descriptions
Founder’s Cup Award — Garden deemed “Best in Show” and a majority favorite of the Main Show Judges and the 20 judges for the other awards listed below. Recipient receives a rotating sterling silver trophy which is passed on at the following year’s show.
Best Use of Color Award — garden that best incorporates dramatic color from flowers and foliage, hardscapes, structures and accessories. A permanent plaque is given. Judged by regional horticulture experts.
Best Use of Horticulture Award — garden that best incorporates plants utilizing color, texture, size and shape to enhance the garden’s theme. Judged by regional horticulture experts.
Garden Design Magazine Award — garden that best showcases innovative design, horticultural acuity, and inventive productivity. This garden illustrates why gardens are for people.
