GROWING GUIDE

Geographic Origin: Japan.
Plant Group: Conifers.
Hardiness: Sunset zones: 4-6, 15-17. USDA: zones 4-8.
Mature size: Height: 8 feet (2.4 m). Width: 8 feet (in 20 years).
Flowering attributes: Angular female cones.
Leaf attributes: Soft, silvery blue green foliage. Very blue needles when soil is acid with high magnesium levels.
Growth habit: Pyramidal.
Light: Full sun.
Soil: Moist, slightly acidic soil.
Propagation Methods: Sow seed in spring. | Semi ripe cuttings in late summer.
Pests and Diseases: Well drained soil is a must to help prevent root rot. Some pests that could be problems are Spruce mite, twig blight, root rot and needle blights.

Rainy Side Notes

Beautiful blue needles on a large shrub that does and looks better in the Pacific Northwest than a Blue Spruce. Don't plant a blue spruce they are not suitable for the PNW maritime climate. These spruces will look pretty sad after the first few years. Plant this chamaecyparis instead!
