JAPANESE MAPLE | |
|
GROWING GUIDE Geographic Origin:
Garden.
Soil: Moist, well-drained soil. Feeding: Side dress with compost. Pruning Methods: Prune to shape in late fall to winter. Pests and Diseases: Some pests that could be problems are aphids, scale insects, and caterpillars. Possible disease problems are Verticillium wilt, tar spot, leaf spot and root rot. Rainy Side NotesBeautiful and graceful, Acer palmatum 'Garnet' are subjects for bonsai in pots as well as being used extensively in the landscape. An artfully pruned tree flowing over the side of a wall, as if a waterfall in motion, brings grace and beauty to even a simple scene like the one above. Very fast growing when young, it will look two years older than most A. palmatums the same age. To bring out the red-orange color in the leaves, this maple will need some sun. Plant this to cascade down a wall or in a large container.
