GROWING GUIDE

Geographic Origin: Japan.
Plant Group: Perennial.
Hardiness: Sunset zones: 1-10,12-24. USDA zones: 3-8.
Mature size: Height: 18 inches (45 cm). Width: 18 inches (45 cm).
Flowering period: May.
Flowering attributes: White flowers with red eyes.
Leaf attributes: Deciduous, oblong-ovate, toothed leaves forming a rosette.
Growth habit: Rosette forming.
Light: Partial shade.
Soil: Moist, humus rich, neutral to acidic soil.
Feeding: Side dress with compost or manure. Fertilize monthly, spring through early summer with a complete organic fertilizer.
Propagation Methods: Sow seed and keep at 64-71ºF (18-22ºC) for 2-4 weeks; move to temperatures at 24-39ºF (-4 to +4ºC) for 4-6 weeks. | Divide in early spring.

Rainy Side Notes

Japanese primroses looks great mixed with ferns especially the Athyrium niponicum (Japanese painted fern). Their native habitat is moist woodlands but they can take a full sun position if soil is kept moist. Very easy care perennial if planted in the right place.
