GROWING GUIDE

Geographical Origin: Garden.
Plant Group: Perennial.
Hardiness: Sunset zones: All (Western). USDA zones: 5-8.
Mature size: Height: 3 feet (90 cm). Width: 12 inches (30 cm).
Flowering period: Late summer to early fall.
Flowering attributes: Small ½ inch white flowers with pink centers, borne along one side of the stem.
Leaf attributes: Tiny-toothed, deep purple leaves.
Growth habit: Clump forming perennial.
Light: Full sun.
Soil: Moist, fertile soil.
Feeding: Mulch with compost or composted manure in fall. Fertilize with a complete organic fertilizer in spring and again in early summer.
Propagation Methods: Divide plants in spring.
Pruning Methods: Cut back plants to half in early summer to promote bushiness.
Pests and Diseases: Slugs and snails may eat young growth.

Rainy Side Notes

Aster lateriflorus 'Prince' is similar to the species, but the foliage is a beautiful dark purple. Throughout the growing season, it adds color with its dark foliage and later in summer with it small white flowers with pink centers.
