GROWING GUIDE

Geographical Origin: Garden.
Plant Group: Perennial.
Flower
Hardiness: Sunset zones: All (Western). USDA zones: 4-9.
Mature size: Height: 2 inches ( cm). Width: 12 inches (30 cm) or more.
Flowering period: Late spring, early summer.
Flowering attributes: Dark blue flowers on 8 inch spikes.
Leaf attributes: Gold to cream margins with shades of gray-green centers on small leaves. In spring new leaves have brown and khaki hues.
Growth habit: Creeping.
Light: Sun to part shade.
Soil: Moist soil, will tolerate poor soils.
Feeding: Apply compost or manures thinly over the soil after pruning the plants.
Propagation Methods: Division of rooted stems.
Pruning Methods: When necessary, cut foliage back to the ground after flowering to rejuvenate the foliage. Large areas can be mowed; in small areas, use pruning shears or weed trimmer. Trim back above ground runners before they take root where not wanted. About every third year, thin out plants to reduce the chance of crown rot. Prune out any non variegated leaves.

Rainy Side Notes

This bugleweed, a 2007 Terra Nova Nurseries introduction is stunning with it cream to gold leaves with shades of gray-green in the center. Spreading evergreen ground cover. In spring sends out runners that root in the soil.
