GROWING GUIDE

Geographic Origin: Alaska to California.
Plant Group: Perennial.
Hardiness: Sunset zones: Not listed. USDA zones: 6-9.
Mature size: Height: 12 inches (30 cm). Width: 22-48 inches (50-120 cm).
Flowering period: All summer.
Flowering attributes: Racemes of funnel shaped flowers. The common name comes from someone thinking the flower looked like a grinning monkey.
Leaf attributes: Ovate to oval green leaves.
Growth habit: Spreading and vigorous.
Light: Full sun to partial shade.
Soil: Wet or seepage areas, fertile humus rich soil, I have seen them growing in gravelly soils where it is constantly moist.
Feeding: Side dress with compost.
Propagation Methods: Sow seed and place in cold frame in autumn or sow in spring | Divide in spring (Stolons root along nodes).

Rainy Side Notes

I have this growing along the ledge of my pond. The roots creep into the pond for moisture.
