GROWING GUIDE

Geographic Origin: Caucasus, Turkey, Iraq, Iran.
Plant Group: Bulbs.

Hardiness: Sunset zones: All zones.
USDA zones: 5-8.
Mature size: Height: 4-6 inches (10-15 cm).
Flowering period: Late January to mid February.
Flowering attributes: Bluish-purple with a yellow central ridge; flowers have a violet scent.
Leaf attributes: Four sided leaf with a blue-green coloring.
Light: Full sun.
Soil: Well drained neutral soil although mine grow in acidic soil contrary to recommended cultivation recommendations. A good plant for the rock garden.
Feeding: I top dress with manure and or compost in autumn.
Propagation Methods: Divide bulbs when dormant to increase stock. Also it is a good idea to divide bulbs when flower quality declines.

Plant bulbs 3 inches deep with 3 inch spacing between bulbs.

Some of my plants come up through a Blue fescue (Festuca glauca) which then reminds me to trim the fescue back in order to see the iris and because it is an excellent time to trim the fescue.
