SWEET PEAS
Family: Fabaceae

Mature size: Height: 6 - 8 feet (1.8 - 2.4 m). Space: 9 - 12 inches (22 - 30 cm) apart.
Flowering attributes: This is an old variety, supposedly dating back to 1543, and reported to be found in Peru. 'Matucana' was named after the town it was found in. More than likely, it is an escapee that was developed in the 1920s or '30s. No matter what its story, this sweet pea is still popular today. It's known for its rich fragrance, beautiful coloring of maroon on the standard and violet on the wings, and four flowers per stem. The fragrance of this cultivar is one of the best in Sweet peas.
